Welcome to the Team, Alison!

Alison Newbold is a Literary Studies graduate of Staffordshire University and has recently completed an MA in Nineteenth Century Literature and Culture at the University of Chester where she is currently a PhD student with a working title of, ‘The Lives and Afterlives of Nineteenth Century Literary Garden Spaces’.

Alison’s current research focus explores women writers’ engagement with gardens as an expansion of the domestic space, and the effect of debates surrounding the aesthetics of the landscape on representations of literary gardens. Her interest in gardens led to the co-organisation of a student engagement garden restoration project, transforming the unloved space adjacent to the Victorian building which houses the English Department at Chester.

Subsequent public and PGR engagement events within the newly renovated space have been co-hosted by Alison and her supervisor.

You can read more about Alison’s public engagement events on our News page.
